Chirpy Dirges

Recovery Ditty

Ten green bottles.
Drugs paraphernalia
Living in squalor.
A sense of failure.

I wanna make a recovery.

Clean up my flat.
Let in the cat.
Put on a nicotine patch.

I wanna make a recovery.

Take out the bins.
Buy some vitamins.
Forgive my own sins.

An epiphany! Now I see,
my own personal Jesus must be me.

I wanna make a recovery.
Marshall my inner cavalry.
Have a shit, a shower and a shave,
and feel great!

I wanna be that man
stepping off a train,
with a sense of purpose
on a sunny day.
I want my wife to text me
'Little Johnny, Little Sally are ok,
and wish Daddy luck
making the world a place
worth growing up straight'.

I wanna make a recovery,
meditate and drink green tea.
Do solid poos, contribute
to society.
Go on a journey of self-discovery.
As the song  goes, ‘ I’ve never been to me’.
I’ll be a nauseating, life-celebrating,
rehabvangelical cliché.
Purple Lazarus, old and boring,
buzzing being clean ‘n’ free.
Living.
For real.
In recovery.

Ah, Mrs.Recovery has texted me
to say Little Johnny Recovery,
Little Sally Recovery,
miss their daddy. Awww, warms the cockles,
didn’t even goggle
the off-licence’s evil eye.
And if one green bottle should accidentally fall,
tomorrow's
a brand new day in recovery,
